A remake of the successful 1985 comedy horror, Fright Night is due to be released in UK cinemas on the 2nd of September after it premiered at the O2 arena in London on the 14th of August.

Channel 5 have now got the rights to the famous reality TV show, Big Brother. They have started off with celebrity Big Brother with “celebrities” such as Amy Childs, Tara Reid, Jedward, Kerry Katona and Darryn Lyons (who? don't worry, we don't know who they are either).

Last night saw the “stars” taking part in an Egyptian themed challenge where they were all dressed as mummy's, wrapped in yards of bandages and told to lay on the floor in the garden. Ex Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed then emerged in full Egyptian Pharaoh costume and sounded a gong and told the housemates to rise from the dead. The last housemate to be on the floor at the end of the task loses and will probably face a forfeit from Big Brother.

Identitcal twins, John and Edward or as they are now called, Jedward, had great fun in their mummy costumes, even choreographing a new cheesy dance to annoy everyone with.

This weekend sees one of the biggest 80s fancy dress parties in the world. It is the Rewind Festival at Henley-on-Thames and as usual 80s fancy dress costumes play a huge part in this cracking festival.

This year sees the return of all your favourite 80s bands such as The Village People, UB40, The Human League, Billy Ocean, Bananarama and Kim Wilde.

Rewind Festival is a relatively new festival, first showcasing 80s pop legends in August 2009. It has been a huge success right from the start however and each year since seems to be getting bigger and better. This festival appeals to an older age group, more so than many of the other festivals and Rewind really creates a great family atmosphere with everyone out to have a good time.

Halloween is creeping up on us all, infact, it is now only 73 days away! I thought it would be a good idea to remind you of some great Halloween films to watch once all the fun and games of your Halloween fancy dress party have come to an end. You may even want to base your Halloween fancy dress costumes on one of the characters that scare the living daylights out of you from one of these films.

To begin with, have you seen the classic film, Halloween? You must have surely? No? Okay well, this film is quite an old one these days but it hasn't lost it's fear factor. To cut a long terrifying story short, a boy called Michael Myers (recognise the name?) aged 6 has killed his 17 year old sister. The boy is immediately put in to an institution for 15 years. Years later, Michael Myers escapes just before Halloween and nobody in the village of Haddonfield had a clue what was about to happen this Halloween night and by the time they knew he was out it was far too late!

For the last 40 years I think very few children in England have managed to get all the way through their childhood without coming across a little white book with a colourful blob of some description on the front cover. I am of course talking about the Mr. Men books. It was 40 years and 1 day ago that a Father of a curious young boy called Adam Hargreaves asked his Father, Roger, over the breakfast table, what a tickle looked like.

Mr Men Fancy Dress

The cricket is on the radio at every possible opportunity here at Simply Fancy Dress. We are all thoroughly enjoying the latest test match between England and India and are delighted our boys are on absolutely splendid form. We also find ourselves trying to talk like Henry Blofeld from Radio 5 live, quite possibly the most fantastically posh man we have ever heard but also makes listening to cricket on the radio a joy.

Currently the match is being played at Birmingham's Edgbaston Cricket ground with thousands of spectators packing out the stands. The crowd may look slightly different on Saturday however as the cricket ground is inviting all who come to watch the game to take part in a world record attempt to have the most people in fancy dress in a UK sports venue. Over 90,000 tickets have been sold for the 3rd Npower test at Edgbaston so the organisers are hopeful for a good fancy dress turnout of fancy dress clad sport fans cheering the boys on. We are sure the Barmy Army are going to take part and make a right old racket as usual.

The latest film to come out of Marvel Comics is Captain America: The First Avenger. The blockbusting movie is directed by Joe Johnston, written by Christopher Markus and Stephen Mcfreely and stars Chris Evans as the main man and Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving and Dominic Cooper.

With Halloween only a couple of months away now you can normally look at the big films out in the cinemas and see which characters are going to be big this year for Halloween fancy dress costumes. The menacing and heroic Captain America seems to be a perfect candidate for the Halloween fancy dress parties. With the English slowly adopting the American outlook on Halloween, with it just becoming one giant fancy dress party instead of all being focused on Scary Halloween costumes we think there will be a rise in Captain America costumes sold in this busy period. For the next few years atleast I believe the zombies, witches and ghouls of this world will still dominate the halloween fancy dress parties but as each year goes by, generic fancy dress will catch up around the Halloween period.

Orlando Bloom is obviously very keen on the fancy dress costumes he has worn in the past in his successful films. Bloom has played some great parts with very iconic and memorable costumes and he is not willing to let those costumes go to anyone. He has kept costumes from The Three Musketeers and the Pirates of the Caribbean.

He said “When I worked on 'The Three Musketeers'. I embraced all of it. I think that getting dressed up and stuff (I love a frock) really informs what you're doing. "The boots are staying, and the costumes, too. That's definitely a fancy dress outfit one day down the line - probably for my son."

Orlando Bloom also added that in a career full of parts where he plays the friendly, approachable good guy, it was great fun to play the villain, Duke of Buckingham in The Three Musketeers and he wants to make a habit of playing the bad guy roles.
